Jean Luc Ponty plays Frank Zappa tunes with the Mothers of Invention. The jazz performances are bold and solid on some tracks and gently touching on others. Im talkin' 1970 to 1975 - JLP worked with many artists also including Elton John on his Honkey Chateau classic. King Kong is an excellent collection of work JLP did with FZ and he also covers work- mastering is good as is the vinyl quality .

Ponty is no stranger to reinventing his circumstances. After spending the late '60s performing largely acoustic jazz in France, he received a significant break from Frank Zappa in 1969. Zappa composed the music for Ponty's King Kong album, and then asked the violinist to join him as a permanent member of his early '70s recording and touring.
